The music produced by the then 24-year-old Karim Baggili was difficult to describe. A little flamenco here, a few arabic scales there, and lots of fire and enthusiasm made it hard to paste a label on the music. Nevertheless, everyone hearing the young musician in the finals of the Open Strings competition was fascinated.
The boombal, true social phenomenon, invite all Benelux countries with the dance folk. Investing huge concert hall sometimes, it is declined into 4 or 5 demonstrations each week. This compilation proposes a beautiful sample of Belgian folk groups. Kinds and sources of inspiration, systematically traditional, prove varied. The Celtic one dominates however.
You all know how I love a good accordion player, so these two talented women with diatonics, Anne Niepold and Aline Pohl, certainly move to the top of any pile of CDs I am making. Brash, adventurous, remarkably skilled - a perfect formula to get my 'highly recommended' nod.
