SOPHIE CAVEZ: composition, accordéon diatonique
Sophie Cavez was born in 1982 and is an autodidact musician. She's begun
playing diatonic accordion at the age of 17. She continues her formation
following training courses with Didier Laloy, Bruno Le Tron, Filippo Gambetta,....
She is since 2004 the accordionist of the well-known group URBAN TRAD, along
with Yves Barbieux. This band had represented Belgium during the Eurosong
contest in 2003 and currently plays on the main Belgian stages. They obtained
a gold disc.
Carrying out replacements of the accordionist Didier Laloy she plays occasionally
with the actor Philippe Vauchel in his spectacle RACINES, in Luc Pilartz's « Violons
populaires en wallonie ».
She plays in France along with RAPHY RAFAEL, a singer for children and in
Belgium with André Klenes, Frédéric Malempré, Alain Pierre,... She also
collaborates in various projects of songs for children. She has accompanied
the singer BELA with Thierry Vassias,..
She is part of KNOPF QUARTET, an accordion's quatuor which proposes a varied
set of diatonic tunes with Anne Niepold, Vincent Ansaldi and Jonathan De
Neck.
With the group TRADI-SON, she has performed school animations about old
traditional instruments (Hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe, virginal,...).
She also is part of AFROLKA, project based on a meeting between African
rhythms, folk and jazz with musicians Rémi Decker, Philippe Laloy,...
Along with SYLT trio (accordion - violin - drums), she proposes a set of
tradition-insipirated musics with a preference for Scandinavian sonorities.
She is the accordionist in new galician music's project CAMAXE.
She has created her own project namedDAZIBAO along with Karim Baggili,...
where she among others plays her own compositions, "flamenco-oriental" influenced.
Dazibao has been recorded on « Jong folk » compilation and they
play concerts at Dranouter's folkfestival, at Flagey, Bozar's, Sfinks festival,...
She accompanies GENEVIEVE LALOY in her spectacle of songs for children with
Philippe Laloy, Vincent Noiret,...
She teaches accordion in private courses and during training courses, as
within the folk-weekends of Borzée
